Peter Chapman

Peter Chapman's paintings are some of the most extraordinary pictures to have appeared for many years, where the narrative is a riddle to be solved by 'reading' the pictures as though they were books, but as with all interesting books re-reading is necessary, and a full understanding is rarely achieved. Although some of the pictures are more explicit than others, they should be entertaining all the same. Humour as well as mystery is always there and that is an important element of many if not all of the pictures. Most are relatively small, 2ft by 2ft so that not too much is lost when reproduced in the booklets and prints published by his gallery, the Old Town Hall Gallery and Museum, 3, High Street, Falmouth, Cornwall TR11 2AB, where he has his studio and where many of the paintings are exhibited. Visiting the gallery has been described as a "magical" experience, perhaps not for the faint hearted but for those with a sense of the ridiculous.
